Project Possibilities

EASY Cooking Classes

Marilyn S. has purchased 2nd hand crockpots, electric skillet, grill, etc. and continues to gather cooking supplies. Has a meeting set with Yolo Food Bank to determine how CANVAS can best use their services for nutritional information as well as food. Is gathering information for consumer use on getting USDA surplus foods (3rd Wed of every month – dried beans, canned goodds, etc.). Plans are being made to start with the first cooking class in Jan. during one of the drop-in times.

OTHER PROJECT POSSIBILITIES

  1. Projects to be done for mental health clients
    • One-time projects
      1. YCCC semi-annual house maintainence
      2. Volunteer sources - Rotary, Rotoract, and OddFellows
    • Ongoing projects
      1. Adopt a house - Weekly visits to co-op houses to check-in with residents about wellness, housing issues, any problems etc.
      2. Professionally-led Support Group Meetings
      3. "Friend-Line" - Checking in by phone to say "hello," asking how things are going.
      4. Help with Financial Management - Help paying Bills, managing money etc. Check into volunteer training possibiities

    • Park and Recreation activities
    • Adult Education
    • Community College  (some courses at local colleges are at reduced or no cost to persons with disabilities)
    • NAMI Consumer Activities - P2P; Connection Support Group
    • Bookclub, poetry/writing / art workshops
    • Gathering and posting of community activities
    • Weekly group meetings (like Caroline Reiff is starting at her church for seniors)

      1. Help with distribution of groceries/other goods received from Food Bank at TAY/Wellness center
      2. Senior Gleaning
      3. Meal Prep at St. Martins, Wayfarer Shelter
      4. Help at animal shelter (Christina H-C had given this idea)
      5. Tree planting with Woodland Tree group
      6. Help at charity thrift stores (e.g. SPCA)
    • Locate work experience opportunities for people (that haven't been made available through traditional avenues like DESS,etc.)
      1. Bike repair business
      2. Book resale business
